In a very few years, La Zona has established itself as one of the most sought after fishing destinations in the world. It is now featured in almost every book published about destination fishing. No wonder. Since its conception, nearly every world record for Dorado has been smashed at La Zona. The IGFA All Tackle and Fly Fishing World Record Dorados were caught here.

These waters are private to La Zona clients. No one else fishes this part of the Uruguay River. This program is a careful combination of catch and release fishing and biological research on the Dorados of the Ururguay River. Each fish is measured, weighed and tagged.

Only fly fishing or spinning are permitted and only with barbless hooks.

The Dorado is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most exciting game species in the world. A voracious predator, its takes are as fierce as its fight. The sight of big Dorado, a flash of gold in the sunlight, leaping and tail walking on the end of your line is breathtaking.

The season runs all year with following differences:

• Jan to end of April - Best opportunity for floating lines and lures as this is when the water levels are lower.
• July to December - Fish more likely to be deeper requiring sinking lines or mid or deep water lures.
• September & October - This is the best period for record fish as they feed feverishly before the spawning season.
• High Season: Jan 1st to Apr 30th & Sep 1st to Oct 30th
• Normal Season: May 1st to Aug 30th & Nov 1st to Dec 30th

The lodge offers very comfortable accomodation, delicious food and has a pool for relaxation in the summer months.

Fishing is strictly restricted to a maximum of 4 anglers fishing 4 days in a week.

La Zona can be reached by road in a luxury minibus (approx 5 hrs) or by private air-charter (1.5 hrs).
