The Lakes of Junin de los Andes
Huechulafquen
Lake Tromen

Lake Tromen is the source of the Malleo River. It is hidden in the heart of the Lanin National Park.

I can honestly say that Tromen is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful lakes I have ever seen, let alone fished. With the Lanin Volcano keeping watch over its crystal clear waters, it offers a rare variety of habitats for its very big trout. Specimens over six pounds are common.

The water of the lake is quite exceptional, both for its colour and clarity. With the light in the right direction, you can see every feature beneath the water as well as your quarry approaching your fly, even at depth. The banks of the lake offer a mass of different trout habitats and change constantly as you move around.

The lake holds an impressive quantity of browns, rainbows and brook trout that will rise at different times of day depending on conditions and season. The last couple of hours of the day are memorable if you want to catch big trout on the dry fly.

Huechulafquen, Epulafquen and Paimun

Huechulafquen is a simply vast lake. Epulafquen and Paimun, very lakes by British standards are merely arms of the former.

Huechulafquen is the source of the Chimehuin River.

Again, gin clear waters hold phenomenal numbers of stunning wild fish, some growing to specimen sizes. Fabulous dry fly action often chasing rising fish.

Staggering landscapes to every side make fishing these lakes an experience few want to ever end.

The lakes are fished from a combination of sturdy speed boats and rafts that drift along the shore line.
