Rio Irigoyen
The Rio Irigoyen has fast proved itself to be the most exciting and exclusive new destination for specimen sea trout in Argentina.
Fishing for these monster Tierra del Fuego fish has long been identified with gale force winds tearing across the open tundra, as well as casting double handed rods across a wide, rushing river.
The Rio Irigoyen has re-written the rules. Snaking its way through dense Lenga Beech forests, the many pools are sheltered from the notorious winds. In addition, all fishing is done with single handed rods, casting flies strategically through runs or amongst sunken trees. The takes are explosive, the fights can be heart-stopping as stopping a double figure fish in this narrow, snag filled river will test any angler.
Over the past two seasons, barely a week has gone by without several, twenty pound plus fished being landed (and a great many more being lost). In February this year, the river was broken with a fish of 105cm, weighing in at around 30lbs.
For the 2010 season, Far End Rivers Lodge is offering the added thrill of fishing two further rivers, to the south of the Rio Irigoyen, which have proved both extremely remote and extremely productive. Each day, one pair of anglers will be taken by helicopter to fish these rivers, leaving the other two pairs to fish the Irigoyen.
The guiding on the Irigoyen is, quite simply, outstanding. The guides are all highly experienced sea trout guides, with many years’ experience at the Rio Grande’s most prestigious lodges. Their passion and client care has received nothing but glowing feedback from returning clients.
