Barra Mansa Lodge - The Pantanal, Brazil
The Pantanal:

Heading due west from Sao Paulo towards the geographical centre of South America, you reach the Pantanal. This vast wetland roughly the size of mainland Britain, spreads over much of the states of Matto Grosso and Matto Grosso do Sul. It runs along the northern reaches of the Paraguay River and spills into Bolivia and Paraguay. The Pantanal is almost entirely flooded from November till, in some places, April. The waters then recede and the landscape changes from a lush green veined with rivers, streams and lakes, to a brown savannah, forcing the innumberable species of birds and mammals to congregate close to what water is left.
Of interest to the angler is the fact that this is the Brazilian home of the wonderful Dourado, as well as upto 200 other species of fish. Aside from the Dourado, the Piraputanga, Pacu, Trairas and others are core to the Game Angler.
Aside from the fabulous fishing, The Pantanal offers a fabulous destination to travel with a family or non-fishing partners as a week could easily be taken up exploring this stunning land on horseback, canoe or 4x4. It is also one of the most keenly priced destinations in Brazil.

Barra Mansa Lodge

Barra Mansa Lodge is a fabulous family run lodge catering both to fishing and eco tourism. All rooms are double occupancy with en-suite bathrooms.
The food is excellent and the Rondon family’s welcome is legendary.
You will be at all times accompanied by an English speaking guide who can assist you with all your wildlife questions.

You will be met at Campo Grande airport, taken to you private charter plane and looked after perfectly, but unobstrusively until you fly back to Campo Grande at the end of the week.
We can arrange for an expert fly tyer to meet you on arrival to supply you with very high quality locally tied flies. (at extra cost).

The in and out charter flight is a wonderful experience in itself.

The Dourado

The “Golden Salmon” is one of South America’s fiercest predators and is fast becoming a favourite quarry for game anglers. Few fish crash into a fly or lure like the Dourado, spoiling you with spectacular leaps and tail walks. The sight of these bars of gold leaping several feet into the air is one that stays in the mind for ever.
